About the studio

Two sisters, one studio

Jennifer Peterson founded J. Peterson Design in 2008 and leads its Chicago and Southwest Michigan work. Her sister, Jill Kearns, leads the Atlanta office. Both are formally trained interior designers, and both stay on your project from the first conversation to the last piece placed.

Working as sisters is why there is one shared standard rather than a house style handed down to junior staff — and why every decision gets a second qualified opinion before it ever reaches you.

How it works

The design process

Six stages, from the first conversation to the day the last piece is placed.

  1. 01

    Design consultation

Scope, priorities, budget and timeline — settled in the room itself.

  2. 02

    Presentation of your design

The proposal, with the materials it would take to build it.

  3. 03

    Construction documents

The drawings your builder works from and your trades price against.

  4. 04

    Material selections

Cabinetry, countertops, lighting and tile — specified and sourced.

  5. 05

    Jobsite inspections

Site visits through the build, so the space goes in as drawn.

  6. 06

    Finishing touches

Furniture, window treatments, styling and the final walkthrough.
